If you are a blogger or a site owner, then you probably spend a lot of your time finding topic ideas, researching sources for your content, writing your posts, and interacting with your readers.  So, just why would you ever want to dip into your precious site maintenance and writing time in order to contribute to someone else’s site?

Guest Blogging

There are many reasons why, and if you don’t know them, you could be seriously stunting your site.  Here are five reasons you should be guest posting:

Attracting traffic to your own site

When you write quality content as a guest poster, and contribute to an outside site in an impressive and considerate way, there is no doubt that you will win over some of that site’s visitors who are curious to find out more about you and your site.  When you attract visitors from other sites via your guest posts, you know that they are quality visitors who are genuinely interested in your site and who are likely to subscribe, which is much preferable to random visitors who will hit and run, never to return.

Backlinks

Backlinks (links to your site from other sites) are an integral part of search engine optimization (SEO), which means the more backlinks there are leading to your site, the higher your site will rank with the search engines.  Guest posting creates backlinks to your sites, therefore improving your site’s SEO.

Your brand

When it comes to online marketing, branding is everything.  You must establish yourself as a recognizable entity.  When you guest post, you present yourself as an expert, and the more credible you appear to readers, the stronger your brand.

Networking

When you guest post for someone else’s site, you build a rapport with the site owner.  This type of networking can lead to a multitude of advantages, including more guest posting opportunities, backlinks, exposure and brand recognition.

Personal development

Although you should always guest post only for sites that are somehow related to the expertise you have to offer (and likely your site’s niche), you should also always tailor your guest posts to the sites you are writing for.  That means you may be writing for an audience you are not familiar with, or addressing a topic that is new to you.  This can be a great opportunity to broaden your horizons as a writer and grow as a site developer.

If you run a blog or any other website, then you really should be guest posting.  These reasons why should be convincing enough to inspire you to get out there and find some guest posting opportunities and grow your site.
