Update: [How To] Get Live Coverage of Appleās iPhone 5 Event on September 12th
Apple is set to launch next gen iPhone today in San Fransisco. What will be this new iPhone called? Will it be named iPhone 5 or just “the new iPhone”, like Apple did it with “the new iPad?” According to the event invitation that Apple sent out, the next generation iPhone will probably be named iPhone 5. But we never know. Apple might be planning to drop the number system and call the new iPhone just “the new iPhone.”
What Will the new iPhone Look Like?
The new iPhone 5 will come with a two-toned metal/aluminum body. It will probably have a bigger screen. The current iPhone 4/4S have a 3.5 inch screen. The iPhone 5 is supposed to have a 4 inch screen. The resolution will increase from 960 x 640 to 1136 x 640. Apple is currently testing iOS 6 that is custom-tweaked to support a 5th row of icons for the larger homescreen. Of course, the new display will support Retina sharpness.
The new iPhone 5 will either come with A5X or A6 processor. It is supposed to come with 1 GB of RAM. The iPhone 4S packs 512 MB of RAM. We can also expect to see a powerful GFX processor that will improve the gaming performance.
The new iPhone 5 is purported to have smaller dock connector. This new connector is a narrower version (19 pins) of the current dock connector (30 pins). The size of this new dock connector is approximately between the size of micro-USB and mini-USB connector. With time, Apple will bring the new connector to all its iOS devices.
The new device will likely be compatible with 4G LTE networks. The latest iPad also has LTE capabilities. But the LTE chip in iPhone 5 will not be compatible with all the networks worldwide, as is the case with the new iPad. AT&T and Verizon are already testing LTE networks in some parts of the United States. The new iPhone will be compatible with these networks. The new iPhone 5 is also rumored to support nano SIM. This SIM is smaller than the current micro-SIM that iPhone 4/4S support.
iPhone 5 will probably have a bigger battery to support 4G/LTE network and larger display. But I think the backup will be almost same as that is provided by the iPhone 4S battery. The position of the headphone dock connector is also likely to change. It is rumored to be at the bottom besides the dock connector.
What about NFC (Near Field Communication) chip? From the past year, there are rumors that Apple is working to embed NFC technology in its iOS devices. But, according to rumors, we probably won’t be seeing NFC technology in the new iPhone this year. Maybe Apple is still honing NFC technology for its devices.
A couple of days ago, a video showing boot sequence of the new iPhone 5 was uploaded on YouTube. You can check it below:
When will the new iPhone 5 be available for order?
The latest rumors suggest that the iPhone 5 will be available for preorder on September 14th, 2012. This suggests that Apple already has new stock handy. With a plethora of Apple fanboys, the preorders of new iPhone 5 will be full within few days. So if you’re an Apple fanboy and want to purchase the new generation iPhone 5, then be ready to preorder it on September 14th.
