Apple has released iOS 5.0.1 (9A405) final to the public. This build fixes the battery issues on iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad & iPod Touch. Also, this new iOS fixes some security issues.
iOS 5.0.1 also brings back multitasking gestures on the first-generation iPad, improved Voice Recognition for Australian users and more.

You can download iOS 5.0.1 via the direct links given below and then update via iTunes.
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 4 (GSM)
- iPhone 4 (CDMA)
- iPhone 3GS
- iPad 2 WiFi
- iPad 2 GSM
- iPad 2 CDMA
- iPad
- iPod touch 3G
- iPod touch 4G
Over the Air (OTA) update is also available from Settings -> General -> Software Update
Note: Jailbreakers and unlockers must stay away from this update. A tethered jailbreak is available for iOS 5.0.1, but Apple might have fixed the exploit that Charlie Miller discovered recently. So, untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 might take time. Also, it’s not possible to downgrade to iOS 5.0 once you’ve updated to iOS 5.0.1, because the SHSH downgrade method has been patched by Apple.

Hi, I’m planning a BB preserved upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 now since untethered Jailbreak is out. However, if I face some issues, is there no way to go back to iOS 5 even with iFaith’s signed iOS 5 signed custome firmware package?
You can go back to iOS 5 if you’ve dumped SHSH blobs using iFaith.
I’m planning a BB preserved upgrade to iOS5.0.1, with the untethered jailbreak on snowbreeze. can u tell me where to download the ipsw to use for this, and please explain the steps required for this? PLZZ! thank u!
Manpreet,
sn0wbreeze is not yet updated to support iOS 5.0.1 untethered. You’ll need to use redsn0w to jailbreak + untether iOS 5.0.1.
