Update 3rd October 2012:
[How To] Jailbreak (Tethered) & Install Cydia on iOS 6 Final on A4 Devices – iPhone 4, 3GS & iPod Touch
Apple released iOS 6 beta to the developers on June 11, 2012. The iOS hackers were fast and the iPhone Dev team has already released redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 6 beta on A4 devices including iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4. This jailbreak is only intended for developer use. It only installs SSH and doesn’t install Cydia or any other GUI utility.
Earlier today, I talked about enabling 3D maps and Turn by turn navigation on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS. If you’ve access to iOS 6 beta and want to install iFile for managing files/directories on your iOS device, then follow this procedure.
How To Install iFile via SSH on iPhone 4, 3GS or iPod Touch 4 Running iOS 6 Beta?
Step 1: SSH into your iPhone. I used Ubuntu Linux’s terminal app for this procedure.
Note: If you’re on Windows, you can use PuTTY. On Mac, you can use the Terminal app.
The login credentials are root/alpine.
Step 2: After SSH login, execute apt-get update command. This will update the package lists (the same thing that happens when Cydia is launched). Make sure your iOS device is connected to the Internet via WiFi. In the image below, 192.168.1.8 is the local wireless LAN address of my iPhone 4.
Step 3: Install iFile using the following command:
apt-get install eu.heinelt.ifile.
All the dependencies will be automatically taken care of. You don’t need to worry about them. The three major dependencies required for installing iFile are file-cmds, p7zip & unrar.
Step 4: Now respring your iPhone or iPod Touch using the following command:
killall -HUP SpringBoard
After respring, check if iFile is present on the home screen. If not, then turn off your iPhone 4, 3GS or iPod Touch and boot in tethered mode using redsn0w.
After reboot, iFile will be present on your home screen. iFile works fine on my iPhone 4 running iOS 6 beta.
Note: The jailbreak for iOS 6 beta is currently tethered. So everytime your iPhone or iPod Touch reboots you must use redsn0w to boot it in tethered mode. This is necessary to use jailbreak tweaks like iFile.
