If you’re reading this there is every probability you have been wondering about the huge difference between traffic to your blog from Google and Yahoo!. I was also checking my westhost coupon blog recently and noticed the same. In reality, most bloggers only get a fraction of the traffic they get from Google from Yahoo!, and as someone who depends on the internet for my income I think that shouldn’t be

It is very important not to put all your eggs in one basket, as anything can happen to your Google rankings at any time. In this article I will be giving you a few tips on how to rank your blog in Yahoo!.

1. Submit Your Blog to Yahoo! to Get Indexed

The first step you should take when it comes to getting your website ranked in Yahoo! is to submit your blog to Yahoo!. The reality is that while it is cool to get ranked in Yahoo!, rankings don’t occur unless you’re indexed, and the only way to get indexed is by submitting your blog. Previously, Webmasters used to submit their blogs to Yahoo! Site Explorer, but Yahoo! is closing Site Explorer in the near future & has already merged Site Explorer’s database with that of Bing Webmaster Tools. This is in effect to the search alliance between Yahoo! & Microsoft Bing. So now to submit blog to Yahoo!, you must ad it to Bing Webmaster Tools.

If you’ve a multimedia related site, you can submit your feeds to Yahoo! via Media RSS Feed Submit. On this site, you need to enter your details, feed details & time of refresh. Then after some time your content will be visible in Yahoo! Image Search, Video Search, Audio Search & other search results.

Alternatively, you can also get indexed by getting links from blogs already indexed by Yahoo! – and if you can do that, getting indexed and ranked should be very easy over time.

2. Build a Sitemap to Make Your Content Organized and Easy to Crawl

Once you have been able to get your blog indexed the next step you should take should be towards making sure Yahoo! and other search engines understand the structure of your website and find it easy to crawl, and one of the best ways to do that is by having sitemaps. It doesn’t matter whether you use an XML sitemap or an HTML sitemap, as long as you have the right sitemap it will become relatively easy for Yahoo! and other search engines to index your blog and understand its structure.

If you’re running self hosted WordPress blog, I recommend you to use Google XML Sitemaps plugin to create XML sitemap of your blog. I’ve been using this plugin since I started my blogging career. If you’re on Drupal CMS, you can use Drupal’s XML Sitemap module to generate XML sitemap of your Drupal website.

3. Focus on Getting High Quality Site-wide Links

The final step to take to ensure your ranking in Yahoo! is to focus on getting as much high quality links as possible. The difference in this case will be that the links won’t just be to your homepage, but also to relevant pages on your site.

Here are a few articles that will help you with building good backlinks:

In other words, you should also have focus keywords for other pages on your blog, and as a result optimize your blog for these keywords – once these pages are optimized you should then get as many links as you can to them. Just make sure these links are from related and quality sites to get the best results.

Well Yahoo! definitely has a different algorithm from that of Google and Bing. It majorly depends on backlinks and the age of the site.
