iTiim Sim – New Unlocking Solution for iPhone 4 [Review]

It has been more than an year since Apple launched iPhone 4. There is no ultrasn0w unlock for iOS 4.1 and above on iPhone 4. Instead, GEVEY Sim / GEVEY Ultra, GEVEY Supreme & Rebel Micro Sim provide unlock for iPhone 4.

I recently received an email from a Thailand based manufacturer. He sent me his new iTiim Turbo sim for reviewing. The best part about this new iTiim Turbo sim for iPhone 4 is that it doesn’t require a custom tray unlike GEVEY & Rebel sims. The iTiim chip fits in the original iPhone 4 sim tray.

The guy sent me two versions of iTiim turbo sims:

iTiim Pop & Hurricane

With iTiim Pop, you need to dial 112 only once to get the network. You can watch the live demo of iTiim Pop in action on Youtube.

For using iTiim Hurricane, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone and install FuriousMod (from http://cydia.furiousmod.com or http://simkey.org/cydia/) and then when you insert your sim card, FuriousMod will automatically do the 112 procedure and your iPhone will get the network in around 40-50 seconds. Here’s the link to Youtube video showing iTiim Hurricane in action.

How does iTiim work with Original Sim Tray?

iTiim chip is manufactured differently than the previous turbo sims. The black IC part is located on the side of the chip rather than the top. With this, you don’t need to use custom sim tray. You need to cut your sim a little from the side, so that the sim alongwith the iTiim chip fit in the iPhone 4 sim tray. The iTiim package contains the instructions that show how to cut your micro sim properly.

iTiim Instructions

I tried both the sims and they work pretty fine. The network is quite stable. Also, to enable GPRS/3G Data, one requires to enable Data Roaming (pretty same like all previous turbo sims).

iPhone 4 unlocked using iTiim Hurricane

iTiim Pop & Hurricane are compatible with iOS 4.1, 4.2, 4.3.3 and basebands 01.59, 02.10.04, 03.10.01 & 04.10.01. Also, iTiim Turbo sim will work with iOS 5 by preserving baseband using sn0wbreeze as does GEVEY.

What’s the Price?

iTiim Pop costs between $15-$25.

iTiim Hurricane costs between $20-$35.

Where to Buy?

You can check the official iTiim’s Distributor page for buying iTiim Turbo sim for your iPhone 4. The iTiim team will also be setting up an eBay page for the products.

It works on iOS 5 beta with preserved baseband. To confirm whether it works with iPhone 5, we’ll have to wait till it’s launch.

Does iTiim Pop drain your battery? Is that little chip in the SIM slot more power efficient than Gevey SIMs and Gevey counterfeit SIMs? How often, if ever, do you have to reboot the iPhone?
