react0r – A New iPhone 4 Unlock for 04.11.08 Baseband? [Updated]

Hamzah Akram has released react0r. Head on to his blog to know how you can unlock baseband 04.11.08.

An unknown hacker @hamzah_akram seems to be working on an unlock for 04.11.08 baseband for iPhone 4.

Hamzah calls this unlock react0r.

What is react0r & how does it work?

react0r is a new unlock tool for 04.11.08 baseband. react0r works by erasing 04.11.08 baseband and flashing iOS firmware with an older baseband version like 04.10.01. After flashing the older baseband, you can use Gevey sim to unlock your iPhone 4. So, if you’ve accidentally updated to iOS 5 or have bought a new iPhone 4 with iOS 5 pre-installed, there seems to be some hope for an unlock.

Hamzah has been working on this unlock since October/November 2011. And about two months later now, he seems to have some progress.

According to his tweet:

Dear guys! the up coming nice thing for all of you is called #react0r ! #4.11.08 …. No donation required! this will end the #4.11.08 age!.

Also, Hamzah has a blog where he writes updates related to react0r and 04.11.08 baseband unlock. He has written a tutorial to erase 04.11.08 baseband. This is for advanced users who want to try flashing older baseband by modifying Apple iOS. Try this at your own risk as it might brick your iPhone.

The news is not yet confirmed. We don’t yet know whether this is real or fake.

So, we basically come to know that react0r does not work by erasing the baseband 04.11.08. Then how does it work? No news about that yet. Hamzah hasn’t posted any more information on his twitter or blog.

But, he has posted a photo of his AT&T locked iPhone 4 on Zain Jordan network.

As you can see in the above photo, MC318LL is the Model number of the iPhone 4. MC318LL is the Model number given to an AT&T locked iPhone 4. Also, the baseband is 04.11.08 (which is not yet unlocked). Yet it’s working on Zain JO carrier.

The infamous iPhone hacker, @MuscleNerd has added @hamzah_akram to fake list on Twitter. This fake list contains users who fake about jailbreaks and unlocks. MuscleNerd is a prominent iOS hacker who is working on iOS jailbreak & unlock since the launch of first generation iPhones. MuscleNerd has also worked hard to find exploits in 04.11.08 baseband. But luck has not favored him yet. So, this almost concludes that Hamzah might be just faking about react0r – the 04.11.08 unlock.

In the meantime, Hamzah has been acting sportingly to this event. Here’s what he tweeted:

In his defense, Hamzah also tweeted that he’ll post a video demo of react0r soon.

We still don’t know whether react0r is fake or real. Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more news about react0r unlock for 04.11.08 baseband.
